Denying Yourself for Your Spouse By Eemetris and Jona Postell
“If anyone wishes to come after me”, he said, “He must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” Luke 9:23
Jesus walks ahead of His followers and ask each one to do as he Himself has done. He says: I have not come to be served, but to serve so whoever wants to be like me must be the servant of their mate. In other words, Jesus asks that in our marriages choose the same path. To deny oneself is to give up one’s own plans that are small and pretty in order to accept God’s plan. We as humans only think of self, but Christ thinks of others and marriages.
After 2 years of marriage we know that our spouse comes first. When we get up in the morning the second thing besides thanking God for waking us up is ask your spouse is there anything that needs to be done. For example, ironing clothes, getting some breakfast for you and the kids, making sure the kids are ready or just starting the car so it will be ready when you walk out. We have heard couples say that love comes first but love got you to the altar and most of all will keep you because that is not an easy thing to fall out of. Some say communication is first but that is not a weak point in all marriages. Lastly, some say patience is important but to put yourself on hold for your spouse is number 1 to us.
In closing, when you start to take a shower just think that your right hand husband/wife is your right arm and wash them first. It will be a great way to start to deny yourself for your mate just as Christ denied himself for us all.
