Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is LOVE. 1 Corinthians 13:13
The one thing that we believe is needed to have a good relationship and lasting marriage is LOVE! Love is fundamental to the success of your marriage. Not your current feelings of romance or sexual satisfaction. Not a stronger financial standing or even your spouse’s behavior. All of these things can and will change based on different circumstances. But when the storms rise and conditions worsen, love-driven marriages endures and work through even the toughest issues without giving up. Of course we are not going to agree on everything as husband and wife. After ten years of marriage, Ted and I have experienced that first hand. Also there are times when we may want to throw in the towel and just give up because this knuckle head husband or this nagging wife is just getting on my last nerve and not acting right! When our marriages are grounded in LOVE, we can demonstrate patience, tenderness and kindness when this occur. We need to recognize that we are going to have some differences. Often times marriages end because couples claim that it is due to IRRECONCIABLE DIFFERENCES! But genuine Love is a master at RECONCILIATION. When genuine love takes over, it compels us to apologize or forgive where we have failed each other. Some of you have already stated in previous devotions that marriages are built on unity(The Dean’s), Communication(The Madison’s) and Understanding(The Foreman’s) just to name a few of the devotionals. Also marriages are built on honesty, respect, commitment, forgiveness and endurance. But LOVE constantly inspires all of these things to grow and thrive within us. We would like to end by saying you can strip away most of the pleasures you and your spouse have together, but a lasting marriage hinges on love! Our prayer is that God, teach us all what real love is and make us loving spouses! God Bless.
